Eight years ago, my grandfather passed away. I remember walking through the room at his wake, staring at all the old photographs. I learned more about who he was in that day than I had in my lifetime of knowing him. I felt like I missed out. Big. After that day, I started making small efforts to get to know my family history. I wanted to know where my relatives came from and how we got to where we are today. Beyond diagrams of birthplaces and marriage dates, I wanted to know about them as people. And I wanted to start with my own parents.
My dad is passionate about a lot of things: the Beatles, gardening, pumpkin cheesecake, sailing… the list goes on. One of his biggest interests in recent years is classic cars. He bought a 1972 El Camino a few years ago and has shown it at car shows on the weekends. I learned he had an El Camino when he was younger too. Last winter, I came up with the idea to document his car in a shoot and gift him a print for his home for Father’s Day. Well, June was a little crazy. The session may not have happened until late summer, but he enjoyed the gift all the same.
Happy to share these images. Love you dad!.jpg)
